Junior Manufacturing Engineer

Department: Factory

Main Location: Braintree

Reports to: Manufacturing Operations Manager/Works Manager

Direct Reports: None

The Main Purpose of the Job:

To provide operational and engineering support to the manufacturing department, working closely with the Works Manager to ensure all work is planned through the factory, delivered on time and correctly.

Duties Include:

Machine Maintenance

  • Ensure all manufacturing equipment is kept in good working order
  • Working with the Works Manager research and justify capital expenditure for new equipment

Swann Direct

  • Maintain product information on Swann Direct website
  • transactions/movements (Internal and external consumption)
  • Obtain quotes for stock orders
  • Coordinate stock ordering and processing i.e. Galvanising

Manufacturing Admin

  • Assist in the maintenance of the job costing system
  • Work with operations to improve company work flows of information
  • Generate weekly/monthly reports including Plasma requirements, Swann Direct orders, Manufacturing workload etc.


  • Providing costs, estimated hours and lead times for jobs including Swann Direct, Telecoms
  • and Structural
  • Work with operations and purchasing to ensure raw material stock levels are kept sufficient to meet delivery expectations with excess
  • Work with factory staff and supervisors to improve work flows through manufacturing including the implementation of Lean


  • Good IT skills including intermediate Excel (e.g. pivot tables and V-lookups)
  • Have worked in a B2B engineering environment
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering including machine shop (plasma/laser/oxyfuel cutting, milling, drilling, punching, press break) and welding/fabrication (MIG/MAG) by qualification or experience
  • Experience of process improvement and Lean implementation
  • Full drivers Licence
