Swann Install Eco-Friendly Outdoor Media Screen

The Swann Group Out of Home Media team has successfully installed an eco-friendly digital advertising screen in East Hill, Wandsworth, London.

The structure, produced for JCDecaux, is a D450 portrait screen (5.2m x 7.7m) that was installed in time for the Christmas advertising campaigns and contains a bio wall on the rear and a slate tile finish at the base to match the surrounding building.

Utilising a 130-tonne crane, the structure was constructed within a restricted space, due to traffic management restrictions, and with the team unable to construct on the roadside. This meant having to carefully lift the modular elements of the tower over the roof of an existing building to land accurately on the newly constructed foundations.

The site posed several challenges for our design, project management and installation teams. The complicated foundations were also a challenge due to the short programme required

Working with the client and their independent designer, our inhouse charted engineers developed an innovative piling approach. Which enabled the team to accelerate the programme despite the small demise and layout complexity.

Incorporating the green bio wall and irrigation system proved to be seamless thanks to the close relationship built up with the specialist supplier at the design stage and the tiled plinth to match slate tiles on the surrounding building became another process to add to our growing list of on-site skills.

The outdoor media team were also responsible for the groundwork and finishing and completed the project to an accelerated programme. We believe this eco-friendly advertising structure is the first of its type to be installed in the UK.
